In Brief: Man held for ATM loot bid
Phagwara: The police have arrested a man under on the charges of attempting to break open two ATMs of the State Bank of India located on Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road here in the wee hours on Wednesday. The arrested accused was identified as Sonu, a resident of Soondh Colony, Phagwara.Vivek Guleria, a resident of Ludhiana and working for NCR Corporation, Mumbai, and engaged for maintenance of ATMs, told the police that he noticed the attempts to break the ATMs from the CCTV footage.
Villager held for gambling
Phagwara: The police have arrested Soorat Singh of Arayian village for gambling. The accused was selling betting slips near the toll plaza on Jagraon road at Beetalan village. As much as Rs 10,000 and two smartphones were recovered from their possession. The vehicle used in gambling was impounded. A case under the Punjab Gambling Act has been registered against the accused.
Driver booked for mishap
Phagwara: The police have booked an SUV driver on charges of causing death by negligence, rash driving and mischief. Paramjit Singh, a resident of Malsian village, complained to the police that a vehicle hit his cousin Jagir Singh's cycle near the railway line on December 9 and he died on the spot. A case has been registered against the unidentified accused.
Minor abducted, man booked
Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by a woman from village Pandori, Reena, the Sadar police have registered a case against a youth identified as Babu Ram, a resident of village Kotrani near Phagwara on the charges of abducting the minor daughter of the complainant on the pretext of marrying her. The 16-year-old girl was missing since December 2. No arrests have been made so far.
Villager booked for killing cats
Phagwara: The police have booked a villager on the charge of killing pet cats. The accused has been identified as Mulakh Raj of Kanganna village. Amarjit Singh of the same village complained to the police that the accused reached his well on December 6 with his accomplices and seven dogs and killed his pet cats. A case has been registered against the accused and his unidentified accomplices.
Man held for stealing cash
Phagwara: The police have arrested a person on the charge of stealing cash from a clinic. The accused has been identified as Baljit Singh of Mureedwal village. Kamaljit Singh, owner of Kamal Hospital, Jalandhar Road, complained to the police that the accused stole Rs 3 lakh and other documents from his office on December 5 night. A case had been registered against the accused.
