In Brief: Ferozepur man held for abduction
Phagwara: The police have arrested a Ferozepur resident on the charges of kidnapping a youth and threatening his family. The accused has been identified as Gurwindar Singh of Nihala Kilchan village in Ferozepur. Jagiro Bai of Dharme Dian Chhana village had complained to the police that the accused and Sandeep Singh of Sher Singh Dian Chhana village in Kapurthala and their accomplices had kidnapped her son Rannjit Singh and threatened her with dire consequences.
Woman drug peddler held
Phagwara: The Bilga police have arrested a woman on the charge of selling poppy husk. Investigating officer (IO) Satpal said 2 kg of poppy husk was seized from the possession of accused Paramjit Kaur, alias Pammi, a resident of Sangowal village. A case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act.
Decision to fill posts lauded
Phagwara: Ashok Bhatia, secretary of the Aam Aadmi Party's Kapurthala district unit, praised the Chief Minister for his announcement regarding the filling of vacant teaching posts in government schools. Lauding the move, Bhatia said the decision would address the shortage of staff in schools while also providing employment opportunities for unemployed teachers.
Booked for firing in village
Phagwara: The police have booked unidentified persons on the charge of endangering life and firing. Satwant Singh of Talwandi Sangherrra village complained to the police that he was the caretaker of the house of Sukhjinder Singh of Sojal Jagir village, who is living abroad. He said some unidentified persons fired at the house on July 14 night. A case has been registered.
Teenager missing for three days
Phagwara: An 18-year-old girl, a resident of Baloki village, has been missing for the last three days. Kartar Singh complained to the police that his daughter went from the house on September 9 night without telling anybody and did not return home. The investigating Officer Harwindar Singh said a missing report has been registered in this connection.
Vehicle thief arrested
Phagwara: The police have arrested a vehicle thief and recovered a stolen motorcycle without number plate from his possession last night. The arrested thief was identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of village Aujla near Nurmahal, the police said.
BJP flays govt for tax hike
Phagwara: Senior BJP leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal, condemning the increase in the rates of petrol and diesel, has alleged that the Bhagwant Mann government, which came to power promising to represent the common man, has now revealed its true colours. Grewal opposed the decisions to raise taxes on diesel and petrol.
