Hoshiarpur: Three held with drugs, liquor
The police claims to have arrested three persons and seized drugs and liquor from them in separate incidents. The police arrested Netra Singh of Khushi Paddi and recovered 1 kg of opium from him. In the second incident, the police arrested Rekha Rani, a resident of BDO Colony, and seized 30 gm of intoxicating powder from her. In the third incident, the Garhdiwala police recovered 26,250 ml of liquor hidden in fields near Argowal village. In the fourth incident Dasuya police arrested Ravi Kumar, a resident of Dhanoa Pattan village, and recovered 96 gm of intoxicating powder from him.
Two arrested for kidnapping
Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have arrested two persons on charges of kidnapping and rioting. Station House Officer (SHO) Aman Saini said the suspects were identified as Rakesh Kumar, alias Saabi, and Sukhwindar Pal, of Maulli village. Lakhwindar Kaur, a resident of Mohalla Ravi Dasspura, complained to the police that the suspects and their accomplices attacked her husband at his shop, kidnapped him and threw him on a road after seriously injuring him. She said her husband had an altercation with the wife of Rakesh at his chemist shop where he had gone to buy medicines. The SHO said case was registered against the suspects.
Woman held for consuming drug
Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a woman on the charge of consuming heroin. SHO Jai Pal said the woman had been identified as Neetu, a resident of Mohalla Khurampur in Mehatpur town. A lighter, a silver paper and a pipe used for consuming the drug were recovered from her possession. A case under Sections 27, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the suspect, the SHO said.
Two nabbed with pistols, bullets
Hoshiarpur: The Chabbewal police have arrested two persons and seized two country-made pistols and four bullets from them. On Thursday, the police received a tip-off that Jaskaranpreet Singh, alias Kannu, of Kukkar Majra and Lovepreet Singh, alias Ladi, of Bhajjal, living abroad, allegedly gave instructions to the two suspects, identified as Imanpreet Singh of Jassowal village and Vinay Kumar of Rampur Bildon village to commit crime on their behalf. The police arrested the duo and recovered pistols and ammunition from them.
One killed in road accident
Hoshiarpur: One pilgrim died and another was injured in a road accident on the Hoshiarpur-Chintpurni road on Thursday. Manish Kumar, a resident of Ravidas Nagar, told the police that he was returning from Mata Chintpurni with his friend Satinder Kumar of Hoshiarpur. He said when they reached the Punjab border, a truck hit their vehicle. He said his friend Satinder died on the spot while he got injured. The driver fled with the truck after the accident. The police have registered a case in this connection.
