Govt planning to set up one modern stadium in every dist: MP Chabbewal

‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ district-level competitions were inaugurated today by MP Raj Kumar Chabbewal at the multipurpose Lajwanti Outdoor Stadium. District Sports Officer Gurpreet Singh Bajwa was also present on the occasion.

He said that the state government has planned to construct and modernise sports stadiums at the district and village level. Every kind of facility will be provided to the players in these stadiums so that they can improve their talent. The MP said the government was trying to set up at least one modern sports stadium in every district.

Players of different age groups participated in these district-level games. The sports competition will be held from September 16 to 22 at various venues.

Players of different age groups performed well in these sports. In the shot put event of Athletics U-17, Jasjeev Singh Sahota stood first, Yuvraj Singh was second and Somprakash Singh was third. In the 100m race of U-17 boys, Sudhanshu Yadav got first place, Gagandeep Singh was second and Sushant Sarang stood third. In the high jump event in U-14, Sannat Ghazala stood first, followed by Purnia and Kranti Kumari.

In the boxing event, Kriti of 30-32 kg weight category in U-14 category entered the semi-finals by defeating Jashandeep Kaur. In U-17 boxing, Palak Chaudhary defeated Roshni Chaudhary and made it to the semi-finals.

In U-14 girls’ handball, Meghwal Ganjio team won the gold medal, Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Railway Mandi, won the silver medal and Mahilpur team won the bronze medal. In Under-17, Government Girls Senior Secondary School Railway Mandi won the gold, the team of Meghwal Ganjio won the silver and the team of Mahilpur won the bronze medal.

In U-21 girls, Government Girls Senior Secondary School team of Railway Mandi defeated the team of Mahilpur and secured the first position. The team of Mahilpur defeated the Government Senior Secondary School of Sikri and won the silver medal.

In basketball U-21 girls, Garhdiwala Griffin team defeated the Garhdiwala Greater team and secured the first position. Team Purhiran performed brilliantly by defeating the team of Tanda.
