Goods destroyed, family pet perishes in blaze at house in Khodian Mohalla
Fire broke out at a house in the bustling Khodian Mohalla bazaar area on Tuesday morning. Household goods were destroyed in the fire that also claimed the life of a pet dog.
The fire, believed to have started from a temple lamp (Jot) in the house, quickly spread and consumed the entire structure. The incident unfolded around 11am with a 20-year-old woman trapped inside the house at the time. Nearby residents rushed to her aid and successfully rescued her before the fire spread in the house. However, the family dog, asleep in the house, could not be rescued and died in the blaze.
Narrow lanes of the Khodian Mohalla bazaar posed a significant challenge for the Fire Department. Firefighters were forced to park their vehicles 150 metre away from the house and use long hoses to combat the blaze. By 12.30 pm, four fire tenders had arrived at the spot to bring the fire under control.
The house owner, a local woman who runs a boutique near Khodian Mohalla, was at work when smoke began to billow from her residence. Alarmed neighbours took immediate action and evacuated the woman’s daughter and notified the Fire Department.
Fire brigade officials, present on the spot, said, “We received information about fire around 11 am. The entire house has suffered extensive damage. Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire originated from the temple lamp kept in the house. A detailed inquiry is underway and necessary action will be taken accordingly”.
Meanwhile, the incident has left the family devastated as both mother and daughter were seen crying inconsolably outside their house. The police said on the basis of the investigation and statement of the family further action if required would be taken. — TNS
