Four of family among 5 booked for passing caste remarks, intimidation
The Nakodar Sadar police have booked five persons, including four members of a family, on the charges of passing cast remarks, criminal intimidation and blocking pathway.
Investigating officer (IO) Janak Raj said the suspects were identified as Mukhtiar Singh, a resident of Eeda village, his wife Kulvinder Kaur, their sons Harpreet Singh and Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, and Amrit Pal, a resident of the same village.
Amarjit Singh, a resident of Eeda village, complained to the police that he was going out of city in his vehicle. The complainant said when he was about to reach the main road, he found the stretch ahead blocked as Harpreet had parked his vehicle there.
The complainant said when he requested Harpreet to give way to his vehicle, he refused to do so. The complainant said, “Harpreet fled from the spot and came back with his father, mother, brother and another accomplice and started passing caste remarks and using abusive language against me. They also threatened me of dire consequences.”
The IO said a case under Sections 285 (obstruction in a public way), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), 191(3) (rioting), and 190 (unlawful assembly) of the BNS, and Section 3 of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, was registered against the suspects. No arrests had been made and raids were on nab the absconding suspects, the IO added. — OC
