A gang war broke out between two groups of detainees in the Modern Jail at around 8 pm on Friday, an official said, adding both groups attacked each other with thick sharp nails.
Jail inmates, identified as Simranjeet Singh, Vishal, Sunil and Mukesh, from both the groups were injured. Vishal was serving time in jail for a murder case.
The four men were taken to the Civil Hospital, the official said. Seeing Mukesh’s condition as critical, doctors referred him to the Government Medical College in Amritsar.
Simranjit Singh and Vishal have been sent back to jail after first aid, the official added.
