Four injured as bag containing firecrackers explodes
A loud explosion took place in the Mohalla Prahlad Nagar area of the city on Thursday morning, shattering the windowpanes of houses and vehicles parked nearby. Four youths sustained injuries in the incident.
These youths were preparing an idol of a deity and lit a firecracker. Sparks fell into the bag that contained crackers. The bag was being held by a youth accompanying them. The crackers in the bag caught fire and there was a huge explosion.
The bag is said to have contained around 200 crackers which exploded simultaneously. After the explosion, a cloud of smoke rose.
Two youths were seriously injured in the blast, one of whom suffered injury in his hands and the other in ear. Two others sustained minor injuries.
They were immediately taken to the Civil Hospital, from where they were referred to a private hospital due to their critical condition.
Officials of the district administration reached the spot to assess the situation. AAP leader Brahmshankar Jimpa and former minister Sunder Sham Arora visited the hospital to enquire about the condition of the injured. The explosion that took place early in the morning created panic in the locality.
