Jalandhar: A 10-day bhangra training camp concluded at Lyallpur Khalsa College. More than 400 bhangra lovers aged three years to 60 years participated in this camp. Dr Amandeep Singh, Director, Department of Youth Welfare, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, was the chief guest on the last day of this camp. He was welcomed by Principal Dr Jaspal Singh with a bouquet. Principal Dr Jaspal Singh said Dr Amandeep Singh has a valuable contribution in promoting Punjabi culture and heritage. Dr Amandeep Singh inspired the learners of all age groups to join bhangra to stay physically and mentally healthy. On this occasion, Dr Palwinder Singh, Dean Cultural Affairs, said people have shown great enthusiasm to learn bhangra.

New academic session

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya commenced its academic session 2024-25 with pious Havan. It was attended by Principal Atima Sharma Dwivedi, faculty and students. All invocations sought the benedictions of the Almighty. Principal Prof Dwivedi welcomed the new students to KMV. She also emphasised on the need to revamp the traditional educational system. She also shed light upon the advantages of autonomy under which the syllabi of all the programmes have been upgraded to meet the requirements of 21st century. Principal lauded the efforts of Dr Neeraj Sharma, Head, Department of Sanskrit, and PG Department of Music for melodious recitation of holy hymns.

Inter house poetry recitation

Inter-house poetry recitation competition was organised in Anand Public Senior Secondary School. Principal Dr. Arvinder Singh Sekhon appreciated the efforts of the students and motivated them. The competition inspired young poets to come forward and recite on stage. Students presented different poems on the topic ‘Animal Kingdom’ and recited their poems which reflect their love and care for animals. Ayansh from Ranjit House from class 3 stood first. The second position was secured by Manish Bhagi of Shivaji House and Gurman Kaur of Bhagat House. Shruti of Bhagat House and Nandini of Pratap House secured third position. Aditi of Bhagat House and Ramneet Kaur of Shivaji House from class IV stood first. Purvi Kalia of Bhagat House and Yashvi of Pratap House got second position.

Inter House Declamation

Ivy World School hosted an Inter-House Declamation Competition in three categories based on their grade levels. In the first category, students from Grades 4 to 6 delivered speeches on Jawaharlal Nehru’s iconic address ‘A tryst with destiny’. These young orators brought to life Nehru’s visionary words, showcasing their public speaking skills. The second category featured students from Grades 7 to 9, who took on Mahatma Gandhi’s inspiring Quit India movement speech. The middle school participants impressed the audience with their abilities and understanding of India’s Independence struggle. The competition culminated with the senior category, where students from Grades 10 to 12 presented Martin Luther King Junior’s legendary speech, “I Have a Dream.”

Apeejay’s swimmer shine

Gurvir Singh Mann of Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, participated in Jalandhar Distt Swimming Championship held at Sports College and won number of medals. He got a gold medal in 100 m free style, gold medal in 50 m butterfly, gold medal in 50m freestyle and a silver medal in 100m butterfly. The budding sportstar also participated in Punjab State Swimming Championship held at PAU Ludhiana and won gold medals in 4x100m freestyle and in 100m freestyle, bronze medals in 50 m butterfly and in 50m freestyle.

Van Mahotsav

Van Mahotsav was organised for the NCC cadets of State Public School, Jalandhar Cantt, with the help of dedicated staff and in-training officer Harjinder Kaur. They planted different species of trees such as neem, mango, drake, blackberry, tamarind and so on in the school campus. This year also, by joining the initiative by the government the plants are being planted and would be carried till the end of July.
