In a determined push to ensure women’s safety and public security, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police launched a comprehensive drive targeting eve-teasing and traffic violations on Monday.

The operation, spearheaded by Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma, saw the heightened vigilance near 88 schools across the city. The initiative, conducted between 1pm and 4pm, involved the participation of senior officers, including DCPs, ADCPs, ACPs, SHOs, IC PPs and dedicated teams such as the Emergency Response Squad and Field Media Team.

During the drive, 88 check-points were set up, leading to the inspection of 1,760 vehicles and the issuance of 148 challans. Violations ranged from 15 cases of vehicles without proper number plates to 35 instances of triple riding and 28 individuals riding without helmets. Additionally, 10 vehicle owners were penalised for using modified silencers, causing noise pollution, while 14 drivers were found without licences. A total of 46 vehicles were impounded for lack of documents.

“The initiative focused on creating a safer environment for women and the public by addressing the persistent issue of eve-teasing and harassment. By ensuring security near schools and public spaces, the drive aimed to instil confidence among citizens and uphold the dignity of women and girls in the city”, said police officials.

“Such proactive measures reflect the department’s commitment to fostering social harmony and building a community where everyone feels safe and respected,” they further said, adding that the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police is dedicated to maintaining public safety and ensuring the city remains free from harassment and intimidation.
