Drug racket busted, 3 arrested with 14 quintals of poppy husk
The Jalandhar Commissionerate has busted a drug racket with the arrest of three persons and the seizure of 14 quintals of poppy husk and two vehicles.
Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma said on a tip off, a police team had laid a naka near Adda Thabalke, where they spotted an SUV (PB-09-Q-4590) coming at high speed towards the Jamsher-Jandiala Road gate. The vehicle was followed by another vehicle. He said when the SUV was signalled to stop, the driver applied brakes, causing the vehicle following it to collide with the SUV.
Sharma said during investigation, persons in the SUV identified themselves as Guravtar Singh, alias Tari, of Bhode village of Phillaur and Des Raj of Dharam Singh Diyan Channa near Mehatpur. The CP said the driver of another vehicle identified himself as Daler Singh, alias Dalora, who too was a resident of Dharam Singh Diyan Channa village near Mehatpur.
He said when the vehicles were checked, a total of 55 plastic bags each containing 20 kg poppy husk were found loaded in the SUV. Sharma said additionally, 15 bags of poppy husk were found in another vehicle. In all, 14 quintals of poppy husk was recovered from them. An FIR under the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Sadar, Jalandhar, and the accused were arrested.
