In a series of swift operations that dealt a significant blow to the drug trade in the region, the Jalandhar (Rural) police arrested five persons, including three drug peddlers and a POCSO case suspect, while also apprehending a long-absconding proclaimed offender (PO). The 24-hour crackdown led to the recovery of 210 narcotic pills from various locations across the district.

“This is part of our intensified campaign against drug trafficking and crime in the region,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, while addressing mediapersons at the district police headquarters on Saturday.

In the first operation, which exposed a local drug distribution network, the Nakodar police arrested Amit, alias Amati, red-handed with 110 narcotic pills during a strategic patrol operation on the Maldi link road. Amit, a resident of Pani Wala Mohalla Ghosh, Nakodar, was reportedly going to deliver the contraband when a police team led by Inspector Aman Saini nabbed him.

In another significant breakthrough, the Maqusdan police struck gold when they arrested two drug peddlers – Munish Kumar, alias Mishu, and Sandeep Kumar, alias Deepi – near Sherpur village. The duo, both residents of Mubarakpur, were carrying 100 pink-coloured narcotic pills. “The suspects tried to hide in a field, but the police team spotted and apprehended them,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Surinder Pal Dhogdi.

One held in POCSO case

Demonstrating quick action in crimes against minors, the Nakodar Sadar police arrested Som Lal, alias Sodhi, within 48 hours of the registration of the POCSO case against him. The suspect, a resident of Khunkhun village, had allegedly attempted to assault a 16-year-old mentally challenged girl on November 8.

Proclaimed offender nabbed

Adding to the string of successes, the Kartarpur police finally caught up with Karanvir Singh, a proclaimed offender (PO), who had been evading arrest since May 2021. Singh was wanted in a 2018 case involving serious charges of assault and criminal trespass.

All operations were conducted under the supervision of Jasroop Kaur Bath, Superintendent of Police (Investigation), Jalandhar (Rural). Various police teams worked in coordination across the district to nab the suspects.

“This is just the beginning, warned SSP Khakh, while emphasising on the district’s zero-tolerance policy against crime and drugs. “Anyone involved in drug trafficking or criminal activities should consider this a final warning, Khakh added.
