Hoshiarpur, April 20

A meeting was conducted in compliance with the orders passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to ensure right to life and personal liberty as guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution to runaway couples and those living together in live in relationship. The meeting was called by Aprajita Joshi, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Hoshiarpur, on the directions of Amarjot Bhatti, District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Hoshiarpur. The meeting aimed to address the grievances faced by such couples at the district level so that they are not forced to move the High Court for help.

The meeting was attended by Dr Shiv Raj Singh Bal, SDM, Hoshiarpur; Varinder Khosa, DSP, Hoshiarpur; and Mukesh Gautam, District Social Security Officer, Hoshiarpur. For the security of the runaway couples, it was decided that the night shelter home at the old tehsil complex will be earmarked as the safe house for their temporary stay. Any such runaway couple can contact Anup, superintendent of the shelter home, on 7814421760 and Pawan Kumar on 96536 19595 working in the office of the DLSA for any assistance. DSP Khosa said the helpline 112 and 181 can be reached by the runaway couples in case of any emergency. Mukesh Gautam said the help desk at the office of the District Social Security Officer, Hoshiarpur, can be visited for any kind of assistance.
