District table tennis championship concludes
The Jalandhar District Table Tennis Championship 2024 concluded successfully here on Sunday. Organised by the Jalandhar District Table Tennis Association (JDTTA), the event witnessed enthusiastic participation and outstanding performances in various categories.
Fagun Bhandari emerged as the standout player of the tournament, winning titles in both the men’s singles and Under-17 boys’ categories. Ayush Gambhir displayed exceptional skills to clinch the championship in the Under-19 boys’ division.
PTTA CEO Pankaj Sharma and Advisor Gagan Bahri congratulated JDTTA for organising the championship in an exemplary manner. They praised the efforts of JDTTA secretary Chandan Sharma and his team for increasing player participation compared to the previous year and providing a platform for young talent to shine.
Chief guest Prashant Gambhir distributed prizes to the winners, while guest of honour Vivek Thapar lauded the association’s commitment to promoting table tennis in the region. Grand Walk Directors Sunit Rishi and Davinder Rishi were also acknowledged for their special contributions, which added to the event’s success.
The tournament was attended by several dignitaries, including JDTTA president Sanat Gupta, vice- president Rajeev Sharda, treasurer Kartik Dogra, technical advisor Hitesh Dogra, district coach Manish Bhardwaj and senior coach Baldev Dogra.
The results of the championship were as follows. In the Under-11 girls’ category, Rudrika claimed the first position, followed by Anmol and Samayra/Manya. In the Under-11 boys’ category, Sidak Singh emerged victorious, with Tejas and Divit Arora/Arnav securing the second and third spots, respectively.
In the Under-13 girls’ category, Raina took the top spot, while Rudrika and Anmol/Manya finished second and third. Sidak dominated the Under-13 boys’ group, followed by Shubham and Dhairya/Kavish.
The Under-15 girls’ category saw Riddhi clinching the first position, with Sehaj Kaur and Ryna Mago/Rudrika Dab securing the next spots. In the Under-15 boys’ category, Naash emerged as the champion, followed by Atharv and Pranav/Sidak.
In the Under-17 girls’ category, Riddhi claimed another title, while Sehaj Kaur and Anmol/Rudrika took second and third. Fagun won the Under-17 boys’ category, with Lakshay and Dhairya/Atharv finishing close behind.
The Under-19 girls’ title went to Rishita Mahajan, followed by Riddhi and Dhanu/Aditi. In the Under-19 boys’ section, Ayush claimed the championship, with Fagun and Ronit/Lakshay securing the next positions.
The women’s singles was won by Rishita, with Ridhima and Riddhi/Aditi taking second and third spot. In the men’s singles, Fagun bagged the top spot, while Lakshay Mahajan and Harsh Sehgal/Naman rounded out the podium.
