Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said Aadhaar issued by the Government of India was an important identity card that provides various benefits to citizens. The Aadhaar card could be used as proof of identity, address and age while applying for any government service, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) said. It was the foundation of India’s digital transformation promoting efficiency, transparency and inclusion in various sectors, the DC said.
The DC said according to the report received from the UIDAI regarding Hoshiarpur district, 47,269 children under five years of age had not got their Aadhaar cards. Besides, mandatory biometric update was pending for 1,35,966 children in the age-group of 5 to 15 years. She said mobile numbers of a large number of residents of the district were not linked with Aadhaar card and the biometrics were not updated, due to which they could face difficulties in availing services. She appealed to all residents of the district to go to their nearest service centre to get their Aadhaar card updated so that problems could be avoided in the future.
It may be mentioned that Aadhaar card service is available at all service centres in Hoshiarpur district. Aadhaar counters have been set up at the service centre located in the District Administrative Complex (DAC). The service for updating Aadhaar card is also available on Sundays at service centres located in Tanda, Dasuya, Garhshankar and the DAC.
