Crackdown on dacoity cases in Shahkot, 2 held by rural police
In a major breakthrough, the Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested two notorious criminals, involved in multiple night-time dacoity cases in the Shahkot area, on Tuesday. The police have recovered a stolen mobile phones and a motorcycle used in the crimes.
The accused have been identified as Jatinder Jit of Mulewal Araya village and Harjinder Singh of Chitti village. According to the police, Jatinder has seven criminal cases registered against him, while Harjinder has two.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said the arrests came following investigations into two recent dacoity cases. “In the early hours of August 18, three motorcycle-borne men committed a dacoity at Surinder Kaur’s residence in Miewal Arayan village. They stole gold bangles and other valuables from the house. In another incident on the night of September 28, two suspects broke into the house of Manpreet Kaur in Mulewal Arayan village, stealing gold ornaments, Rs 8,000 in cash and two mobile phones,” SSP Khakh said.
A special team, led by Shahkot SHO Inspector Jatinder Singh, under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Jasroop Kaur Bath and DSP Onkar Singh Brar, conducted raids based on technical and human intelligence to apprehend the accused.
The police recovered two mobile phones and a motorcycle from the possession of the accused. “Initial investigations suggest the involvement of more individuals in these cases. We are conducting further raids to arrest their accomplices,” said the SSP.
In this regard, an FIR, under Sections 305, 331(4) and 3(5) of the BNS, has been registered against both the accused at Shahkot police station, Jalandhar Rural.
Both the accused were reportedly on bailout when they committed these crimes. Jatinder’s criminal record includes cases under the NDPS Act, Arms Act and multiple charges of dacoity, while Harjinder faces charges of forgery and violations of the Arms Act.
“The accused will be produced in the court and police remand will be sought for further investigation. We have adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards crime and criminals will be dealt with strictly,” SSP Khakh added.
