Jalandhar, January 15

The Police Commissionerate, led by Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma, initiated a drive against the sale of Chinese string, commonly known as China Dor, in wake of Makar Sankranti festival. In the past week alone, the police have seized a total of 110 gattu (kite rolls) of China Dor and registered cases against two sellers.

CP Swapan Sharma emphasised the hazardous nature of these kite strings and highlighted their increased usage during the festival of Makar Sankranti, known for traditional kite flying. He underscored that the Punjab Government had officially banned the use of China Dor due to safety concerns, and the Police Commissionerate was committed to preventing its illegal sale.

“To effectively curb the distribution of these banned kite strings, a proactive drive was launched prior to the festival,” said CP Swapan Sharma, adding that regular inspections were being conducted with the help of drone surveillance to identify and track down individuals involved in the illegal sale of Chinese Dor.
