Front leader Harjeet Singh Dhadwal, PSSF leader Rajiv Sharma and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Sabha Punjab state general secretary Dharminder Singh ‘Simbali’ said about 2.5 lakh contractual employees were working on meager salaries in public institutions.

The government, which came to power by promising to make contract, outsourced and enlisted employees permanent, was now running away from its promise.

The government was making false claims by forming sub-committees for this purpose. Mann was repeatedly running from having a meeting with the Contract Employees Struggle Committee. This attitude of the government had upset the contract employees.

On July 5, the Chief Minister had assured them to fulfil the demands of the front by calling a panel meeting with a delegation of the front on July 20. But just before the meeting, the Chief Minister’s Office deferred it to July 24.

Dhadwal appealed to the government to accept their demands on a priority basis, otherwise they would be forced to intensify their protest.
