Construct underpasses in Phillaur: MLA to Bittu
Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Phillaur, has called upon Ravneet Singh Bittu, Union Minister of State for Railways, to address long-standing infrastructure challenges in the constituency.
In a representation submitted before the Minister of State for Railways, Chaudhary highlighted the pressing need for underpasses at two key railway level crossings in Phillaur and Goraya, which have been causing severe traffic disruptions and inconvenience to residents.
Chaudhary told the minister that the primary concern revolves around LC No. B-6 at Km. 6/9-10 on Phillaur-Nakodar road, where frequent train crossings create substantial delays. “The railway line divides Phillaur into two parts, and commuters often face long waits, leading to significant loss of time each day,” said the Phillaur MLA.
He said the road connects Phillaur with several major towns, including Sultanpur Lodhi, Nurmahal, Moga, and Kapurthala, making the construction of an underpass crucial for improving traffic flow.
He said similarly, the Goraya-Dallewal railway crossing in Goraya town has been identified as a hot spot for daily traffic jams. Chaudhary emphasised that an underpass here would significantly alleviate the problem and enhance residents’ quality of life.
Given the state’s financial constraints, Chaudhary urged the Central government to bear the entire cost of the projects. He also proposed naming the Phillaur underpass in honour and memory of his father, Santokh Singh Chaudhary, in recognition of his contributions to the region.
“The Phillaur-Nakodar road serves as a vital link for several cities and is a significant terminal for the Container Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR),” the MLA noted. He expressed hope that the Railways would prioritise these projects, ensuring smooth traffic movement and better infrastructure for the constituency.
