Conserve energy to make future safer: Cong MLA to people
Congress Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh on Friday called upon the people to take a pledge to conserve energy in the form of electricity for a brighter and progressive future for upcoming generations.
He said this on the eve of National Energy Conservation Day, falling on Saturday. According to him, electricity was a national asset and saving it is like performing fundamental duty and contributing towards the economic development of the nation. “Hence, it becomes the moral duty of all citizens of the nation to save electricity and contribute towards the nation’s development,” he reiterated.
Sharing that each unit saved is 1.25 unit generated, Rana Gurjeet said the people should make energy consumption more ethical by making conscious choices. Lowering energy consumption would have a positive impact not only on individual finances but it will also help in nation-building.
Per unit cost of power for industry was Rs 5.40 to 7.17, for commercial Rs 6.37, domestic Rs 6.32 and for agriculture sector is Rs 6.83. Exhorting citizens to save electricity, he said there were over one crore power consumers in the state and if a single unit of power was saved by each consumer on a daily basis, it could translate into massive savings in the form of power and economically also.
