Local Congress leaders led by former MLA Rajinder Beri staged a protest on Saturday morning, targeting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over the ‘deteriorating law-and-order situation’ in the city. The demonstration took place at the Nakodar Chowk, with protesters and Congress leaders wearing black bands on their heads and on turbans in a symbolic show of defiance against the ruling party.

During the protest, local Congress leaders launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the AAP government, accusing them of not paying heed towards the law-and-order situation in the state. Former Congress councillor Sherry Chaddha said, “The AAP government has plunged the state into a chaos. Crime rate is soaring, daily snatchings and robberies are taking place in Jalandhar and instead of providing relief, the government is adding to the burden of the common man.”

Beri said residents were increasingly getting frustrated with the government over the poor law-and-order situation. He said the businessmen and shopkeepers were the most affected as after closing their shops in the night, the next day when they come, they find the shutters broken. “Be it on roads or inside their houses or shops, the residents are safe nowhere,” he added.

Along with the law-and-order situation, the Congress leaders also targeted the AAP government over the recent hike in fuel prices. They voiced their concern, accusing the government of further straining the people financially. They claimed that despite the outcry over the law-and-order situation from every sector of the society, the AAP government preferred to remain unmoved. “The only reason why nobody wants to live in Punjab anymore is that they don’t feel safe here,” they added.

The Congress leaders said they would continue their protests until the AAP government addresses these issues, which they claimed were increasingly bothering state populace.

Hoshiarpur: Congress leaders held a protest outside the district Congress office today against the Punjab government policies.

Congress workers from across the district, city councillors, zila parishad and block committee members along with sarpanches and panches also attended this protest.

Addressing the sit-in under the leadership of district unit president Arun Dogra, former minister Sunder Sham Arora, Sangat Singh Giljian, former MLAs Pawan Adia and Indu Bala, along with other leaders, said, “Not even a single penny from development grant has been spent here,” they said.

The leaders said by increasing the prices of oil and diesel in the state, the deficit in electricity bills was being met by overburdening the people. They further said the Chief Minister who was running the state by taking loans was now increasing the economic burden on the people by increasing the oil prices.

Phagwara: The Congress activists led by Phagwara MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal on Friday staged a protest outside the SDM office, opposing what they called the ‘anti-people policies’ of the AAP government.

The protest was aimed at urging the government to roll back recent hikes in fuel and electricity prices, which the Congress claims have burdened the common man.

Dhaliwal urged the state government to reverse the fuel price hikes and restore the Rs. 3 subsidy on electricity bills for connections up to 7 kilowatts, which was offered during the Congress regime.
