Congress leaders led by former MLA Rajinder Beri staged a protest, targeting the Aam Aadmi Party government over deteriorating law and order situation in the district and fuel price hike, at Nakodar Chowk here on Saturday.

The Congress leaders launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the AAP government, accusing them of neglecting the needs of the people.

Former Congress councillor Sherry Chaddha said, “The AAP government has plunged the state into chaos. Crime rate is soaring, daily snatchings and robberies are taking place in Jalandhar and instead of providing relief, the government is adding to the burden on the common man.”

Another focus of the protest was the recent hike in fuel prices in the state.

On Friday, the local Congress leaders submitted a formal demand letter at the Deputy Commissioner's office, calling for an immediate rollback of the fuel price hike.

The letter highlighted the government's decision to raise VAT by 61 paise per litre on petrol and 92 paise per litre on diesel, which they argue will further cripple the public.

The Congress leaders said they would continue their protests until the AAP government addresses their demands.
