Cong protests ‘poor’ law & order in Punjab

Congress leaders and workers of Hoshiarpur organised a dharna under the leadership of former Cabinet Minister Sundar Sham Arora.

Senior Congress leaders and locals participated in the dharna in large numbers. The dharna was organised as part of the protests organised by the Congress at the district level.

Addressing the public, Arora raised questions on the policies of the Aam Aadmi Party government and the law and order situation.

He said ever since the AAP government was formed, incidents of loot, theft and robbery had increased drastically.

Arora said before the elections, AAP had promised the public that it would eliminate gangs from Punjab, but even after two and a half years, the government had not taken any concrete step.

Meanwhile, hundreds of activists of the Congress led by Phagwara MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal also staged a dharna and a rally in front of the DSP office here to protest the alleged poor law and order situation.

Condemning the alleged inefficient functioning of the Punjab Government, protesters urged the Governor to immediately dismiss it and hand over the responsibility of maintaining law and order to central agencies.

Dhaliwal, addressing the protesters, claimed that the Mann government had failed to keep any of the promises made to voters during the last Assembly elections.

Former Market Committee Chairman Naresh Bhardwaj and delegate Gurjit Walia also addressed the rally. Later, the protesters submitted a memorandum to DSP Jaspreet Singh.
