Civil Surgeon office clerk held in DA case
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has arrested Jaswinder Singh, a clerk posted in the office of the Registrar of Births and Deaths, Civil Surgeon office, Hoshiarpur, for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
An official spokesperson for the VB said the arrest followed a thorough investigation stemming from a Vigilance inquiry.
He added that accused Jaswinder Singh, a resident of Gobind Nagar, near Fatehgarh octroi, Hoshiarpur, was found to have incurred expenditures amounting to Rs 1,23,13,727 during the period from January 1, 2002, to December 31, 2016. However, his total income during this period was Rs 88,15,520, leaving an unexplained excess expenditure of Rs 34,98,207.
The spokesperson further said the disproportionate assets had been categorised as illicit wealth under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Consequently, a case has been registered against Jaswinder Singh at the VB Police Station, Jalandhar Range. Further investigations into this case are underway.
