Choose your own ‘local government’, we will make the city shine: CM Mann
Enunciating his oft-repeated promise to Jalandhar, CM Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday told electorates in Jalandhar that the AAP “will make the city shine” if the councillors of the party are elected in the MC elections scheduled for December 21.
Canvassing for the AAP for the MC polls, while holding a roadshow near the Company Bagh Chowk - the site of the MC office in Jalandhar - the CM appealed to people to choose the AAP for the “local government” this time so that their works may be done.
The CM said, “Elect your own AAP government and you will be the owners of Jalandhar. Normally, the former chosen corporations did not allow the MC to work. We allocate money for sewerage, lights, and parks. But they don’t allow resolutions to pass, lest Mann (CM) may get credit. So please form your own government - the local government. Whatever you say, we will give. Sewerage, garbage dumps, drinking water, parks. Your representative will tell us. The cities will become beautiful.”
The CM was accompanied by AAP Punjab President Aman Arora, AAP Punjab Working President Sherry Kalsi, Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO and Jalandhar West MLA and cabinet minister Mohinder Bhagat.
Speaking from atop his vehicle, the CM added, “Usually CMs don’t pass through such narrow streets. That’s why people have withdrawn from them. Wherever people call, I’ll go. I have come especially to meet you.”
The CM said, “Unlike other parties, the AAP had not come for money, mafia or to earn money through shares in sand and dhabas. It was here to fulfil the works of people.
He added, “Our MCs come from among you. They have come from ordinary homes. We call on young blood. The previous ones chose putt, bhatije, sale, jije (sons, nephews, brother-in-laws). Our minister Harbhajan Singh ETO’s father was a band master and he rose to become a minister. Everything is possible with strong resolution.”
Also referring to the sports hub and NRI belt of Jalandhar, the CM called on people going abroad to make it better here, “Youth is with us. Now we won’t go abroad. Everyone’s running abroad. But they (other countries) are turning us out. They are asking us to go. So let us improve our own country. We have all weathers, our land is fertile, we live with brotherhood, our festivals are collective. Guns haven’t been able to divide us.”
The CM appealed, “I request all that on December 21, rise above from religions and make the AAP MC win. We will make the city shine.”
