Jalandhar : Jalandhar MP and former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has given a new assignment by the All-India Congress Committee. He has been appointed as a senior observer for the ongoing Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Likewise, former minister from Jalandhar Avtar Henry has also got a new role. He has been appointed as the chairperson of the disciplinary committee of the PPCC.

2 women booked for assault

Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked four persons, including two women, on the charge of assaulting a co-villager. The accused have been identified as Wariam Singh of Vehran village and his wife Manjit Kaur and Parmindar Kaur and her son Jashan Preet Singh. Harnam Singh of Vehran village complained to the police that the accused attacked him with weapons and injured and threatened him.

Man arrested for theft

Phagwara: The police have arrested a youth and recovered five gas cylinders from his possession on Monday night. SHO Amandeep Nahar said the accused was identified as Arjun of Palahai Gate, Phagwara. A case has been registered against the accused who was produced before the local magistrate, who sent him in police remand for two days for further investigation.

2 held for chemist shop robbery

Phagwara: The police have cracked the case of looting of a medical shop in Phagwara on September 14 evening. Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said a police party, headed by SHO Jatinder Kumar, had arrested Munna Kumar of Soondh Colony, Phagwara, and Amit Kumar of Palahai Gate, Phagwara, and recovered one bike and one scooter from their possession. A case under Section 303B of the BNS has been registered against the accused.

Man arrested for wheat theft

Phagwara : The police have arrested a person on the charge of stealing wheat from a government primary school. The accused has been identified as Gurwindar Singh, alias Gagna, of Gorsian Nihal village. Amar Kaur of Bargari village in Faridkot district complained to the police that the accused stole 1.5 quintals of wheat from the government school in Gorsian Nihal village on September 12 night. A case has been registered against the accused.

Mobile phone, earrings snatched

Phagwara: Unidentified motorcyclists snatched a mobile phone from a girl after assaulting her with sharped-edged weapon near LPU on Monday night. The victim was admitted to the local Civil Hospital. In another incident, the miscreants snatched earrings of woman riding pillion on a bike with her husband on Monday night. The injured woman was also admitted to the local Civil Hospital.
