Campus notes: Workshop on construction practices
Tata Steel and IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG-PTU) jointly organised an awareness workshop on reducing carbon footprints during construction work. This awareness workshop was organised at the university's main campus. The Centre for Executive Education (CEE) hosted the event under the mentorship of Vice-Chancellor Prof Susheel Mittal and Registrar-cum-Head CEE SK Misra. The key focus area of the workshop was to sensitise the future civil engineers to adopt safe construction practices being in seismic zone 4 and adopt new techniques and building materials mitigating carbon footprints. Kirpal Singh, head (civil engineering, NFL-Bathinda) and Charanjeet Singh from Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana, were the keynote speakers at the workshop. They encouraged students to bring their expertise to move away from conventional practices so that modern techniques help them add value, make their projects economically viable and help in reducing global warming.
Inter-School Cricket Tournament
Jalandhar: SD Trophy U-19 Inter School Cricket Tournament-2024 was inaugurated in Seth Hukam Chand SD Public Senior Secondary School. Chief guest Naresh Budhia (president), Parveen Dada (manager), Sanjay Sharma (principal, DSSD Public Senior Secondary School) and Priyanka Sharma (principal) were present at the event. The SD torch was lit on the school premises, symbolising struggle for victory and light of spirit and knowledge of life. Six schools of the SD Institution are participating in this tournament. The dignitaries met the members of the participating teams and wished them luck.
St Soldier Annual Fete-2024
Jalandhar: St Soldier Group of Institutions held the annual charity fete, in which around 42,000 young students from 35 schools and 22 colleges participated. The fete was inaugurated by Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat, group chairman Anil Chopra, vice-chairperson Sangeeta Chopra and directors/principals of colleges. The 'Bal Mela' started with ‘Saraswati Vandana’. On the occasion, students displayed their talent by participating in competitions such as healthy baby show, fancy dress, modelling, giddha, bhangra, choreography, dance, etc. Students also prepared working and non-working models of science and explained their scientific approach. In the art and craft exhibition, exhibitions based on themes such as save environment, best-out-of-waste, etc. were the main centre of attraction. Apart from this, around 100 food stalls, games stalls and small and big swings were set up. Students displayed their art by presenting giddha, bhangra, dance etc. Tiago car, electric scooter and many other gifts were given away during the fair.
BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Jalandhar: CJS Public School organised an inter-house basketball championship for classes VI to VIII under the guidance of chairperson Neena Mittal and principal Rajni Sharma. The winners of Kaveri House were Gurjaap Singh, Himmat Singh, Abhijot Singh, Sahibpreet Singh, Manjit Thappa, Manik, Vedant Dawar, Harsh Kumar, Harkirat Singh, Mayur Sehgal, Arush Somal and Divyansh Thankur. Chairperson Neena Mittal and Principal Rajni Sharma appreciated the efforts of students and encouraged them to work harder for the future events.
