Jalandhar: A trip to Agra, Mathura and Vrindavan was organised by Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya for students. The trip lasted five days. As many as 29 students were part of the trip. Students were overwhelmed and fascinated by watching the Taj Mahal, the Agra Fort, Banke Bihari Temple, Barsana, Gokul, Raman Reti, Radha Vallabh, Nidhi Van, Prem Mandir and Iskcon temple. Visiting Agra added to their knowledge about old Indian rulers and their administration. The students got historical, spiritual and religious experiences. They thanked Principal Prof Ajay Sareen for organising the trip. Dr Seema Khanna and Sangeeta Bhandari accompanied the students.

English Debate Competition

Jalandhar: State Public School, Jalandhar Cantt, organised the 16th All India Sardar Darshan Singh Memorial English Debate Competition. The inter-school debate competition where 60 students from 30 schools from different district of Punjab participated with zest. The debate was held in the presence of president Dr Narotam Singh and Principal Dr Gagandeep Kaur. The jury was comprised of Prof B PS Bedi, who is an MA, M Phil in English from Panjab University, Chandigarh, Dr Reena Sharma, an associate professor, with 22 years of teaching English from KMV, and Randeep Mand, an inspiring writer from Punjab. The competition started with shabad gayan and ended with incredible India dance performance and the National Anthem. MGN School, Adarsh Nagar, was declared the winner school of the debate. The school won a cash prize of Rs 10,000 along with a grand winner trophy whereas the first runner-up school was Dayanand Model School, which received a cash prize of Rs 5,000 and a trophy. Springdale School, Amritsar, was presented the second runners-up trophy and honoured with a cash prize of Rs 3,000 and a trophy. Atharvika Kad from Saffron Public School, Phagwara, bagged the first prize among the best speaker category and she received Rs 2,000 cash and a trophy while Sargun Arora got the second position from Innocent School, Loharan, and received a cash prize of Rs 1,500 along with a trophy.

Sahodya Inter-School Skit Contest

Jalandhar: Students of ‘The Gurukul’ school performed brilliantly in the Sahodya Inter-School “Punjabi Skit Competition”. The competition was organised at Sant Baba Bhag Singh International School. The topic was ‘Trends of Migration from Punjab’ in which the students demonstrated their skills by presenting the skit eloquently. School director Sushma Handa appreciated the students for this achievement and encouraged them to perform similar performances in the future. Radha Gakhar, Principal of the school, also congratulated the students and encouraged them to work hard in the future and touch the pinnacle of the glory.

Human Rights Day celebrated

Jalandhar: Under the patronage of the District Legal Service Authority, Jalandhar, the legal aid cell of the Department of Laws, GNDU Regional Campus, celebrated International Human Rights Day. Highlighting the importance of the day, Prof Rupam Jagota, Associate Dean, advised the students to imbibe in themselves the qualities of oneness and equality. Dr Varinder Singh, Head of Department of Laws, impressed upon the students to promote the idea of fraternity and brotherhood. All faculty members were present during the celebrations.

Annual Honours Evening hosted

Jalandhar: Mayor World School hosted its Annual Honours Evening 2024, themed “Yug Parivartan”, celebrating academic excellence, cultural performances and student achievements. Gurjot Kaur, general secretary and trustee of Nari Niketan, presided over the function as the guest of honour. The evening began with a warm welcome to distinguished guests, followed by the adorning of badges and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by chairman Rajesh Mayor, vice-chairperson Neerza Mayor and the senior dignitaries. Principal Divya Keni addressed the gathering highlighting the school’s milestones and successes over the past year. An enchanting orchestra performance provided a melodious interlude, captivating the audience. A divine dance performance, ‘Gayatri Mantra Vandana’, added a spiritual dimension to the evening. tns

Annual Show-2024 celebrated

Amritsar: Students of the primary wing of Spring Dale school put up a lively and vibrant Annual Show-2024 titled “Kala Sangam”. The colourful show was a humble effort to depict the glory of the heritage of India in the form of its art and craft legacy. Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, chairman, Spring Dale Educational Society, said around 1,400 students participated enthusiastically in this annual show, presenting a vivid visual of the art and craft forms of India and their connect to our socio-cultural system. The event was presided over by Gursimran Singh Dhillon, PCS, SDM-I, Amritsar, who is an alumnus. School principal Rajiv Kumar Sharma said the show was a humble appeal to the masses to preserve and conserve the heritage of India in all forms. “Arts and crafts of India are not mere artifacts but they are age old traditions interwoven with our socio-cultural web,” added Rajiv Kumar Sharma.

Special lecture on Hindi at GNDU

Amritsar: The Hindi Department of Guru Nanak Dev University organised a special lecture on the topic of ‘Official Language Hindi: Constitutional Opinion and Contradictions’. Brijesh Kumar Pandey, Professor of the Hindi Department of Allahabad University, Prayagraj, was the chief guest. Pandey shed light on the journey and status of Hindi through various constitutional rules and provisions. “Hindi learning facilities will have to be made available in Indian languages. We should take a pledge that whatever we say about Hindi, we will do it. Hindi is the thread of unity among all the dialects of the country,” he said.
