Campus notes: Teej celebrated
Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya celebrated Teej, a special festival of Sawan month. Principal Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi welcomed the guests and in her address congratulated everyone on Teej. Traditional Punjabi folk songs and dance filled the atmosphere with the colour of the festival. Stalls of various dishes as well as stalls of mehndi, costumes and jewellery prepared by the students were also set up in this programme. Kikli — a Punjabi dance and modelling were also organised for the students in which the students participated enthusiastically and displayed their talent. Vanshika Chandal was honoured with the title of ‘Miss Teej’.
Tree plantation drive
Jalandhar: A tree plantation drive under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign was organised in the campus by the NSS unit of Guru Nanak Dev University, Regional Campus, at Ladhewali on Thursday. The students and faculty of various departments joined hands to promote green belt in the campus. More than 20 types of medicinal plants like Neem, Ashwagandha, Tulsi, Calendula, Costus etc were planted at different places in the campus. Prof Rupum Jagota, Associate Dean (Academic Affairs and Students Welfare), motivated the students to go for more such initiatives in the future as well. Dr Varinder Singh, Head, Department of Law and Dr Charan Kamal Walia, Programming Officer, NSS, talked about the depleting environmental conditions. Dr Namrata Joshi, Dr Komal, Dr Nirmala, Manjit Singh, Dr Sheetal and Dr Nitika were also present on the occasion.
Faculty orientation programme
Jalandhar: The Code of Conduct Adherence Committee at Lyallpur Khalsa College Technical Campus organised a faculty orientation programme for the faculty members who had newly joined. Rajni Bedi, coordinator and Arashdeep Singh, co-coordinator, Code of Conduct Adherence Committee, informed the faculty members about the rules, regulations and guidelines of academic processes. The session focused on active learning, technology-enabled learning, outcome-based learning, curriculum design, development and delivery, ways of assessments, classroom communication, learning objectives and lesson plans. Sukhbir Singh Chatha (Director, Academic Affairs, KCL Group) and Dr RS Deol (Director, LKCTC) appreciated the efforts of the organising committee and insisted on creating fine pedagogy and novel ideas in teaching.
555th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak
Jalandhar: In its goal to commemorate the 555th birth year of Guru Nanak Dev, CT Group hosted a seminar reflecting on the timeless teachings of the revered spiritual leader. The seminar was led by the esteemed scholar, Professor of Sikh Studies, Guru Gobind Singh Chair, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, Dr Harpal Singh Pannu, who shared deep insights into Guru Nanak’s legacy of wisdom, compassion and universal peace. Dr Pannu’s enlightening lecture focused on the relevance of Guru Nanak Dev’s spiritual teachings in today’s society, emphasising the importance of harmony, justice and humanity. Present at the event were Dr Sangram Singh, Director of Academic Operations; Dr Sewa Singh, Chief Academic Officer; Dr Arjan Singh, Dean of Students’ Welfare, along with students and faculty members.
State chess champion
Jalandhar: Namish Khanna, a student of Class 6 in Apeejay school, Mahavir Marg, has become the state champion in Under-11 category in Punjab Chess Championship 2024. He got selected to represent the state in the national Under-11 Chess Championship 2024 which will be held at Hyderabad from October 4 to 10. The tournament was organised by the Punjab State Chess Association at Ludhiana in which more than 70 players from various districts of Punjab participated. A total of six rounds were played out of which Namish scored five wins and one draw to clinch the first position.
National Space Day
Jalandhar: Under the guidance of Principal Dr Ajay Sareen, Chandrayaan Vipnet Club of PG Department of Physics celebrated National Space Day under DBT Star scheme. The theme of National Space Day is “Touching lives while touching the moon”. The aim of the celebration was to make the students aware about the various milestones achieved by ISRO and motivate them to make their career in the space sector. A space gallery was set up on the occasion in which posters were displayed to educate the students about various functions, missions and projects taken up by ISRO. Posters showing the timeline progress of various launch vehicles being used for satellites were also exhibited. The students made a number of models related to space and Chandrayaan-3. The students also demonstrated projects showing applications of science and technology for solving problems of day to day life. ‘Vrikshabandhan’ celebration
Emm Aar International School, Adampur, has taken a significant step towards environmental conservation by pledging to celebrate ‘Vrikshabandhan’ (Tree Raksha Bandhan) a day after the festival every year. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting trees for a healthy and sustainable future. Students from the school came together to honour the bond between humans and nature in a unique Vrikshabandhan ceremony. By tying rakhis to trees, they symbolised their commitment to protecting and nurturing the environment. The concept of tying rakhis to trees originated from the unique ideas given by the students themselves.
Innovation in poster-making
The PG Department of Commerce and Management of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar, organised a theme-based poster-making competition for the students of B.Com (Regular) and B.Com (Financial Services). The competition aimed to foster creativity and provide a platform to students to brainstorm and innovate. The participants were assigned topics like: ‘India 2047: Viksit Bharat’ for B.Com Part-I, ‘Digital India’ for B.Com Part-II and ‘Your Dream Startup’ for B.Com Part-III. A total of 48 students participated in the competition, showcasing their talent and creativity. The first prize was awarded to Navneet, Simran and Neha. Principal Prof Pooja Prashar acknowledged the efforts of the Commerce Club.
