Rahul Bagga, a student of BA 5th semester at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, has brought pride to his institution by securing gold medal in the hammer throw event. The competition was held at the district level as part of the Punjab Government’s Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan initiative at Sports College, Jalandhar. Principal Dr Neerja Dhingra congratulated Rahul on his outstanding achievement and encouraged him to continue practising diligently for future national-level competitions. She also commended Sahil Mahay from the Department of Physical Education for his guidance and support.

Workshop on entrepreneurship

Jalandhar: The Department of Design at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya recently organised a one-day interactive session and workshop on entrepreneurship and startups. The event featured Harleen Kaur, owner of the fashion brand ‘The Violent Dresser’, and Daljit Kaur, Head Designer, as resource persons. They shared valuable insights into the evolving fashion industry, focusing on innovative business models, technology integration and sustainability. Topics such as designing skills, marketing strategies, branding, artificial intelligence in design and social media’s impact were explored. Dr Rakhi Mehta, Head of the Design Department, also delivered a lecture on startup innovations. The session concluded with an engaging question-answer round. Principal Prof Ajay Sareen praised the initiative for fostering creative entrepreneurship. Faculty members Ravneet Kaur, Manika and Ritika were also in attendance, contributing to the workshop’s success.

World Food Day celebrations

Jalandhar: Shiv Jyoti Public School marked World Food Day (October 16) by aiming to raise awareness about global food security and promoting access to healthy diets. Under the guidance of Shallu Sood, students of Class VII-A, Paavni Arora and Paavni, delivered a presentation on the significance of the day. They discussed the theme for the year 2024, ‘Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future’, which emphasises the universal human right to access nutritious and affordable food. Principal Parveen Saili highlighted the importance of this day in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger, of the United Nations. Through speeches, presentations and activities overseen by teachers Rajni Sharma and Parminder Vasran, the school stressed the importance of global cooperation in eradicating hunger. Vice-principal Ramandeep and additional vice-principal Mamta Arora lauded the efforts of the students and praised the educational impact of the event.

Career opportunities lecture

Jalandhar: The Science Department of St Soldier College, Danishmandan, recently organised a lecture on career opportunities for students. Dr Summit Jalota, Assistant Professor at DAV College, was the guest speaker. He shared his knowledge on post-Class 12 career paths in both medical and non-medical fields. Dr Jalota, who holds a PhD from NIT, Kurukshetra and has completed post-doctoral work in Italy, inspired students with his vast experience, including GATE-2008 qualification in physics. The event began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony. Principal Dr Sunil Kumar extended a warm welcome to the guests and dignitaries. Faculty member Prof Janvi introduced Dr Jalota, who provided practical advice on how students can align their academic choices with their career aspirations. The event concluded with a vote of thanks. Group Chairman Anil Chopra encouraged students to actively participate in such insightful sessions.

DST INSPIRE camp

Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya hosted the second-day of the Department of Science & Technology’s INSPIRE Internship Camp, attracting 166 students from various schools. The day featured lectures by renowned scientists, starting with Dr Felix Bast from Central University of Punjab, who shared his captivating experiences from Antarctica in a talk titled, ‘Icebound Odyssey: Quest for Inspiration and Discovery’. Dr Himender Bharti from Punjabi University, Patiala, followed with a thought-provoking session on evolutionary biology, deepening the understanding of students on biodiversity. Dr Pratap Kumar Pati from Guru Nanak Dev University concluded with a lecture on biotechnology’s potential to drive bio-economy growth. Students also engaged in hands-on experiments, a quiz and a write-up competition. Principal Atima Sharma Dwivedi expressed gratitude to the guest speakers and noted the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research camp’s value in motivating the next generation of scientists. The day ended with students exploring advanced labs and research equipment, sparking further curiosity in scientific inquiry.

Grandparents Day celebrations

Jalandhar: Seth Hukam Chand SD Public Senior Secondary School celebrated Grandparents Day with a heartwarming event to honour the contributions and love of grandparents. The celebrations began with a traditional welcome, including the application of ‘tilak’ and proceeded with various performances by students, showcasing their gratitude and affection. Grandparents actively participated in interactive games and activities, adding to the fun-filled atmosphere. A cultural programme featuring dances and skits emphasised the importance of family values and the wisdom that grandparents impart. The event concluded with a symbolic gesture where grandparents planted saplings on school premises, promoting environmental responsibility and sustainable practices. Principal Priyanka Sharma expressed her appreciation for the grandparents’ pivotal role in children’s lives and emphasised the importance of maintaining inter-generational connections for holistic child development.

Hindi/Sanskrit Group Song Contest

Jalandhar: Students of Gurukul School made their institution proud by securing the top positions in Hindi and Sanskrit group song contests organised by Bharat Vikas Parishad. In a fiercely competitive event, the students claimed second place in the Sanskrit group song category and third place in the Hindi group song category. Their outstanding performances highlighted both their linguistic skills and musical talent. Director Sushma Handa and Principal Radha Gakhar lauded the students and faculty for their hard work and dedication. A special assembly was held to honour the winners, where they were awarded for their achievements.
