Campus notes: Blood donation camp
Jalandhar: The NSS Unit and Youth Red Cross Society of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organised a one-day blood donation camp in collaboration with NGO Pahal under the guidance of principal Ajay Sareen. The motto of the event was ‘A single drop of your blood could be a drop of life for someone else’. Sixty-four students had themselves registered in this camp. Prof Sareen motivated the students to come forward for the noble cause. The president of NGO Pahal, Harwinder Kaur, motivated the students to become part of this NGO for social cause. She also encouraged the students to participate in such camps with full zeal and enthusiasm. Dr Rupinderjit Kaur, BTO, Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Civil Hospital, was also present there. In this camp, HDFC Bank also extended its cooperation by providing refreshment to the donors.
Halloween celebration
Jalandhar: Halloween was celebrated in the primary wing of Police DAV Public School with a lot of fervour. Students from Classes II to V came dressed in various black and red costumes and spooky makeup. The decorations were as per the festival. Students wearing black dresses and with faces embellished with coloured designs performed yoga. The main attraction of the programme was the children's modelling. They were also given the titles of Haunty, Freaky, Zombie, Ghostly, Scary, Spooky and Magical. Principal Rashmi Vij told the students about Halloween, which is celebrated in the West. The event was held under the guidance of Supervisor Gargi Sharma and coordinators Kavita, Rashmi Bhalla and Amita Rathore.
Youth festival-2024
Jalandhar: Students of St Soldier Law College shined in Youth Festival-2024 at Guru Nanak Dev University. They were prepared under the supervision of college principal SC Sharma and activity in-charge Rinka. Students won in various cultural activities such as the installation, on-the-spot photography, kavishri, poetry and rangoli, in which the first and third positions were held by Nitish, Avneet Kaur, Bhavna, Gurleen Kaur, Keshav Arora, Balraj Singh, Arash Preet Singh, Jaskaran Jot Singh Bhogal, Pooja and Sanjana. Group chairman Anil Chopra and vice-chairperson Sangeeta Chopra honoured them and motivated them to take participation in these competitions in future.
Punjab School Wushu Competition
Jalandhar: Dariti, a Class VIII student of Shiv Jyoti Public School, participated in 68th Punjab School Wushu Competition held at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Nehru Garden, in under-17 (52kg) category. Dariti won the bronze medal in the state. She brought laurels to the institution under the guidance of the team of the department of physical education. Principal Parveen Saili applauded the student for her amazing efforts.
Homage to Norah Richards
Jalandhar: The Punjabi Sahitya Sabha, DAV College, organised an event featuring a keynote address and a theatrical performance by world-renowned dramatist Satish Kumar Verma and celebrated playwright Sompal Hira. The occasion was organised in honour of the birth anniversary of Norah Richards, great grandmother of the Punjabi theatre. Shiv Kumar Tuli, senior vice-principal; Kunwar Rajeev, vice-principal; Sonika Dania, registrar; Ashok Kumar Khurana, head of PG department of Punjabi; and members of the department welcomed the guests. Verma paid tribute to Norah Richards and detailed her pivotal contribution to modern Punjabi drama.
