Campus notes: Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg
Apeejay Satya Model United Nations (ASMUN) 5.0 was inaugurated at the school. The chief guest of the occasion was Ambassador Deepak Vohra, an Indian diplomat and advisor to the African government. The guests of honour were Rashid Kidwai, renowned journalist, author, and famous TV personality, and Priya Sehgal, editorial director at Nexus. Principal Sangeeta Nistandra announced the opening of the three-day event. The founder-chairperson of ASMUN, Gautam Seth, urged the young delegates to choose the right path to success. Deepak Vohra appreciated the students and extended his best wishes to all the delegates. Rashid Kidwai urged the need to bring a change in the current election system for a better future of the country. Priya Sehgal shared a deep concern on how every major news story is targeting a specific religion, just for the TRPs and financial benefit. The three-day event will witness the best of debates, consensus, and leadership, as well as thought-provoking discussions.
Swami Sant Dass Public School
Students of the school have been selected among the top 100 for the Youth Ideathon 2024 (YI24) competition. The event is being conducted by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, GOI. The theme of this event is ‘iStartup a Good Thing for India’. In the 2024 edition, Youth Ideathon has introduced a novel Rs 1,000 challenge to urge young students across the country to build a real innovation or a real start-up under resource constraints. In stage 1, over 1 lakh students participated, and more than 15,000 ideas were presented. Five ideas of the school students were selected for stage 2, in which the top 1,500 students were picked. In stage 3, the team T2V2S, comprising of Siddak, Tanishq, Trinav, Vaibhav, and Vihaan, has been selected among the top 100 and has got an opportunity to showcase their idea in the national-level exhibition. The path to 100 was based on four criteria: interview, product, pitch video, reel/poster rating, selling/fund raise on ‘the kid company’.
Cambridge International School
The school participated in Punjab School Games and brought laurels to school in pistol and rifle shooting championships. A total of 13 students participated in the event, comprising five girls and eight boys. A team of the students has been selected to represent the school in the upcoming state-level shooting game competition. The selected students Parneet Kaur Khurana, Ekamveer Singh, Harman Singh, Jagdev, Nilakshi Molri, Harjapji, Jinny, Jashan Sidana, Karanveer Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Harvir Singh, Manveer Singh, and Palak Sahni demonstrated exceptional performance. The competition was held at Army Public School, Beas. Selected students would move on to participate in the state-level championship that would be held at Bath. Students participated in 10 m air pistol and 10 m open sight rifle and played well. Principal of school, Jorawar Singh, congratulated the students.
DAV University
The university has been recognised for its contributions to industry-academia collaboration by the Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC). The Education Excellence Award was presented to Dr Manoj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, DAV University, at a ceremony in New Delhi. Dr Abhay Sinha, Director General of SEPC; Shrikant Sinha, CEO of Telangana Academy of Skill and Knowledge; and Deepak Chhabra, Deputy Director of SEPC, presented the award. Dr Manoj Kumar emphasised the university’s dedication to innovation, research, and experiential learning as some of the key factors behind this recognition. The university’s industry co-op programs, such as the BTech in Mechatronics with specialisation in Electric Vehicle Engineering (EVE), exemplify its commitment to industry partnerships. The collaboration with L&T EduTech and DIYguru has led to the establishment of a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in e-Mobility, fostering skill development in the EV industry. He said that DAV University also forged strategic alliances with other industry leaders like SAP, Maruti Suzuki, Honeywell, and Intel, offering students a blend of practical experience and academic rigour.
State Public School, Jalandhar Cantt
An activity on ‘Vegetable Market’ was organised by the school for the young learners of kindergarten. A total vegetable market scene was created where these tiny tots came and bought vegetables using Indian currency. Balance scales were used to imbibe in them, as the vegetables are weighted by the vegetable vendors. They also learnt about the English names of vegetables along with the nutritional value they contain. It was a lively activity with lots of fun, frolic, and aesthetic values. The president, Dr Narotam Singh, the vice president, Dr Gagandeep Kaur, and the principal, Savina Bahl, were overjoyed with the excitement seen in the market.
CJS Public School
‘Together we can’ (a value-based activity) was organised at the school for the tiny tots of Class Nursery. The students performed the activity together and made a tree by using their hand prints and finger prints. With this kind of activity, students learnt about how teamwork begins by building trust, and the only way to do that is to overcome our need for invulnerability. Students altogether enjoyed a lot by making a beautiful and creative tree. Students were able to recognise the different colours to make the tree. The chairperson, Neena Mittal, and the principal, Dr Ravi Suta, appreciated the creativity and urged the children to indulge in such extracurricular activities in the future too.
Lyallpur Khalsa College
The PG Department of Political Science of Lyallpur Khalsa College celebrated ‘International Day on Democracy’. On this occasion, the department organised an inter-department competition in which 19 students participated in essay writing and 23 students in poster-making. It urged the youth to acknowledge their role as future creators, granting them the opportunity to voice their vision for the world that they want to build. The HOD of the department, Dr Anu Moon, offered special thanks to Principal, Dr Jaspal Singh, for gracing the event and also for his discussion on the achievement of democracy. He suggested the students make their lives qualitative and worth living. In poster making, Jasleen from BA 1st semester got 1st position, Kirandeep Kaur from BA 1st semester got 2nd, and Anisha from MA Political Science 3rd semester got 3rd. In essay writing, Davinderjit Kaur from MA 1st semester got 1st position, Yogita from M.A 3rd semester got 2nd, and Jaspreet Kaur from B.A 1st semester got 3rd position. Dr Anu Kumari, Head, Department of Political Sciences, thanked the principal and other faculty members.
