Briefly: Two arrested for snatching
Phagwara: The police have arrested two persons on the charges of snatching a purse and mobile phone of the wife of Pawan Kumar, a resident of Jamalpur in Ludhiana. They were going on a bike from Ludhiana to Hoshiarpur. The arrested accused were identified as Ravi Kumar, a resident of village Mehli, and Ravinder Kumar, a resident of village Mandhali. Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the police have recovered a snatched mobile and impounded their motorcycle used in the crime. Further investigation is on.
Case registered after gas leaks
Phagwara : Following a complaint lodged by Vineet Kumar, regional head of the fuel company Think Gas, the police have registered a case against digging of land near a petrol pump along the national highway which led to gas leakage and created panic in the area. The employees of the company, however, succeeded in plugging the leak, thereby averting a major tragedy. The incident took place on September 15. No arrest has been made so far.
Man held for selling liquor
Phagwara : The Nakodar police have arrested a villager on the charge of selling illicit liquor. As many as 15 bottles of illicit country-made liquor were seized from the possession of the accused Kewal of Mahunwal village. A case under Sections 61/1/14 of the Punjab Excise Act has been registered against the accused.
Transformer stolen, 2 booked
Phagwara: The police have booked two persons for stealing transformers from a farmer's field. The accused have been identified as Sagar and Arjan of Nangal village in Phillaur. Baljindar Singh of Poadharra village complained to the police that the accused stole a transformer from his fields. A case has been registered.
Man arrested with heroin
Phagwara: The police have arrested a drug peddler on the charge of selling heroin. Ten gram of heroin was recovered from the possession of the accused Surjit, alias Seeta, of Shankar village in Nakodar. A case under Sections 21-B/61/85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused and his motorcycle was impounded.
Man held for blackmail
Hoshiarpur: The cyber crime police have arrested a person who was allegedly demanding Rs 5 lakh from the family and relatives of a minor girl living in Canada by threatening to share her obscene photos on social media. DSP Jagir Singh said a resident of a village had lodged a complaint with the police that an unidentified person was calling the family members of his 15-year-old niece living in Canada and threatening them that he would defame her by sharing her obscene photos on social media. He was demanding money from them.
