Briefly: One arrested for snatching
Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a miscreant on the charge of snatching cash, a mobile phone and a motorcycle. Investigating Officer (IO) Jaswinder Singh said the suspect was identified as Amardeep, alias Huma, a resident of Mohalla Shah Salempur. Kamaljit Singh, a resident of Muhem village, had complained to the police that the suspect waylaid him on July 24 and snatched Rs 500, a mobile phone and a motorcycle (bearing registration No. PB-08-8102) after threatening him with a sharp weapon. The IO said a case under Section 304 (snatching) of the BNS was registered against the suspect and his accomplice who was arrested earlier.
Two held with 30gm heroin
Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested two youths on the charge of selling heroin. Investigating Officer (IO) Balbir Chand said 30 gram of heroin was recovered from the possession of the suspects identified as Chand Singh, alias Golu, a resident of Sherpur Tiyaba village falling under the Dharam Kot police station in Moga, and Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, a resident of Punia village. The IO said a case under Sections 21-B, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act had been registered against the suspects and the motorcycle on which they were traveling with the contraband was impounded by the police.
One nabbed on charge of theft
Hoshiarpur: The Mahilpur police station have arrested an employee on the charge of theft at a restaurant. Karamveer Singh of Kahri village told the police that he runs a restaurant in Mahilpur. He said Shubham Sharma of Jammu had been working with him for the last 15 days. He said on August 20, the suspect ran away after stealing his mobile phone, two ATM cards and Rs 25,000 in cash. He said the suspect withdrew Rs 1 lakh from his account using his ATM card. The police arrested the suspect after registering a case.
Man dies, wife hurt in mishap
Hoshiarpur: A man died and his wife was injured in an accident on the Hoshiarpur-Chandigarh road. The Chabbewal police have registered a case in this connection. According to information, Sukhwar Singh of Nandan told the police that his uncle Dilbagh Singh was returning home on a two-wheeler with his wife Paramjit Kaur after paying obeisance at a religious place. When they reached near Chagra village, a car hit their vehicle. He said his uncle died on the spot and his aunt was referred to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, in a critical condition. The police registered a case against car driver Jarnail Singh of Pathiyal village.
One arrested with banned pills
Hoshiarpur: The police have arrested a smuggler and recovered huge quantity of banned pills from him. The suspect has been identified as Rajesh Kumar, alias Fauji, a resident of Chadiyal village.
Police find missing child
Jalandhar: Mohd Hassan from Hargobind Nagar reported to the police on August 20 that his 13-year-old son was missing from the area. On receiving the complaint, teams to find the missing child were constituted by the police. An intensive search was initiated and the child was found at Delhi railway station on Friday.
Youth shot at by three men
Tanda Urmar: A youth taking bath at a tube-well on Qadari Chakk Road was shot by a group of other youths due to personal enmity at around 6:30 pm on Friday. The injured youth, Sahil, has been admitted to a private hospital in Tanda. DSP Tanda reached the spot and later visited the hospital. The police have started investigations. Sahil said he knew the three youths, who had fired at him but could not identify the others.
Goods worth Rs 4L DESTROYED IN FIRE
Phagwara: Valuable goods worth an estimated Rs 4 lakh were reduced to ashes in a devastating fire which broke in an electronics shop on local Sarai Road late on Saturday.
