Briefly: Man held for vehicle theft
The police have arrested a man for vehicle theft and recovered a stolen motorcycle (PB-33J-0173) from him on Sunday night. SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the accused was identified as Sunny Kumar of Asha Park, Phagwara. The accused was nabbed near Maan Palace.
Couple booked for cheating
Hoshiarpur: The police have registered a case against a couple in a case of cheating of Rs 45 lakh in the name of selling land. Paramjit Singh of Kila Barun told the police that Kuldeep Singh of Chabbewal, along with his wife Parvinder Kaur, has allegedly cheated him of Rs 45 lakh in the name of selling land. He alleged that the accused had taken monay but didn't register the sale deed.
3 booked for snatching chain
Hoshiarpur: The police have registered a case against three for snatching a gold chain. Satnam Singh of Islamabad told the police that on October 12, he was standing with his friend at a stall near improvement trust office. His locality resident Vicky, Ranjeet Kumar and Harminder Singh, came there with three other accomplices. They attacked and injured him and allegedly snatched his gold chain.
Three arrested for gambling
Hoshiarpur: The police have arrested three persons for gambling and recovered Rs 14,040 from them. The Model Town police arrested Hemraj of Patiala and Mohit Kumar of Akash Colony and recovered Rs 5,200 from them. The police arrested Akashdeep, alias Mikki, of Basant Nagar and recovered Rs 7,840 . Separate cases under the gambling act have been registered.
Four booked for murder bid
Phagwara: The police have booked four persons on the charges of attempt to murder and firing. Mam Hussain of Chitti village complained to the police that he was returning home after meeting his relative at Hairan village on October 19 night on a motorcycle. Four unidentified persons opened fire at him with an intention to kill him. He said one gunshot pierced his thigh and another hit his motorcycle.
Man dies mysteriously
Phagwara: A 40-year-old man died under mysterious circumstances on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Lakhveer Singh of Dherian village. The father of the deceased told the police that his son first consumed liquor and then took his medicine and died. The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem.
Short-Circuit burns Stubble
Phagwara: A short-circuit triggered a fire in the fields at Manawali, causing damage to stubble on Monday. The fire brigade promptly reached the spot and brought the blaze under control. A spark was caused by a sudden voltage surge in the motor wires.
