Brief: woman dies in freak mishap
Hoshiarpur: A migrant woman, who was running a sugarcane juice roller at Nangal Shaheedan on Hoshiarpur-Chandigarh Road, died of suffocation after her dupatta got stuck in the roller. The woman has been identified as Yamunotri of UP. ASI Seva Das said when he reached the spot, he saw that the woman's dupatta had got stuck in the roller and she was strangulated. The body of the deceased has been taken into custody and sent for post-mortem to the Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur. The husband of the deceased woman has gone to his village in UP. oc
Two killed in road mishaps
Hoshiarpur: Two persons were killed in separate road accidents in the district. According to information, Vijay Kumar of Jandoli told the Chabbewal police that he was going to a kiln with his fellow workers in a trolley. When they reached near Mukhomajra, a tempo hit their trolley. Due to which Ramji Lal, who was driving the trolley, fell and died. The police have registered a case. While Joginder Pal of village Nariyala told the police that his brother was coming from Garhshankar in a tempo. Near Mahilpur, a truck hit the tempo and his brother Kamaljit Singh got injured. Murder accused held in 24 hours
Hoshiarpur: The police have arrested a person for killing a man with an axe. Migrant Chamu Kumar had told the police that on Monday, he was consuming alcohol with his brother Rampa and his friend Numas Tufanu sitting near a tubewell in village Chak Singha. A fight broke out between his brother and Tufanu. Tufanu had attacked his brother with an axe and after injuring him, he threw him in a burning field. His brother died of burns. oc

Hoshiarpur: The police have arrested three persons and recovered drugs and liquor from them. The police arrested Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Shankar Nagar, and recovered a large number of banned capsules from him. The police arrested Harminder Singh of Salwara and recovered 27,000 ml of liquor from him. Similarly, the police of Tanda police station arrested Yadvinder Singh of village Sandhwan of district Gurdaspur and recovered 11 gram of heroin from him. oc
Three booked for robbery
Phagwara: The police have booked three miscreants for robbery. Indarjit Singh of Littaran village complained to the police that he was returning home from Shankar village on his motorcycle when three persons waylaid him near the railway crossing and snatched his bag, threatening to kill him. The bag contained a smartphone and important documents. A case under the BNS has been registered against the unidentified accused. oc
