Phagwara: One occupant of a car was killed on the spot when a speeding Canter hit it from the rear on national highway on Saturday night. The Canter driver managed to escape after the accident. The deceased was identified as Chander Bhan of Deol Nagar, Jalandhar. The police have registered a case under against the Canter driver and sent the body to the local Civil Hospital for the post-mortem examination. oc

Ankush gang member held

Phagwara: The police have arrested an absconding member of the notorious Ankush Bhaya gang, which was busted in September with the arrest of its seven members. SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said the accused had been identified as Karan of Rishi Nagar, Nakodar. This gang was linked to major criminal syndicates, including Vikram Brar, Goldy Brar, Rinda Baba and Ravi Balachoria. Khakh said the gang leader Ankush of Nakodar was arrested in September along with his six accomplices. Some more members of this gang are absconding and raid are being made to arrest them. oc

Three arrested for farm fires

Phagwara: The police have arrested three villagers and booked two for burning stubble. The suspects had been identified as Baljit Singh of Kot Badal Khan village, Kulwant Singh of Uppal Jagir village and Surjit Singh of Uppal Khalsa village The SHO said the police also booked two villagers for burning paddy stubble. They have been identified as Ajaib Singh of Bhandal Himmat village and Tarlochan Singh of Pandori village. oc

Man held for blocking traffic

Phagwara: The Nakodar police have arrested a Jalandhar resident on the charge of blocking traffic and harassing people after three years of the registration of a case. The accused has been identified as Mohamad Aaludeen, alias Chand, of Mohalla Khudian, Jalandhar. The accused had staged a dharna, leading about 50 protesters on September 1, 2021, at Mehatpur Chownk on Nakodar-Nurmahal road and harassed people. A case under Sections 143 149 (unlawful assembly), 283(obstruction in public way), 294 (obscene words in public) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC was registered against the accused. oc

Peddler held with ganja

Phagwara: The police have arrested a 'drugs peddler' and seized 250 gm of ganja from his possession on Saturday night. The accused was identified as migrant Bumbum Singh, presently residing in the Bhagatpura locality in Phagwara. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. oc
