Phagwara: Officers of the Punjab State Power Supply Corporation disconnected the power supply of JCT Mill and its residential area Thapar Colony in Phagwara due to non-payment of the long pending electricity bill of Rs 4.51 crore. The power supply of the mill and residential colony was disconnected on Friday morning, said SDO (PSPCL) Jyoti Parkash. Earlier, the power supply of the colony was disconnected on October 9 also but after the assurance of mill management, it was resumed. More than 2,000 JCT workers are the sufferers. oc

Three villagers held for assault

Lohian Khas: The police have arrested three villagers on the charges of assaulting a co-villager. The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, Davindar Singh and Daljit Singh, all residents of Sajjanwal village. Kehar Singh, an 87-year-old resident of the village, had complained to the police that the accused barged into his house on September 28, attacked him and seriously injured him. The accused ransacked his house and damaged his SUV and CCTV cameras. A case was registered against the accused. oc

Man cheated of Rs 28.87 lakh

Hoshiarpur: The Cyber Crime Branch has got Rs 13,46,487 returned to a person who was a victim of online fraud of Rs 28,87,841. Kamaljit Kaur of village Kakkon had lodged a complaint with the police on August 1. She told the police that Rohit Kumar had allegedly cheated her husband Rahul Sharma of Rs 28,87,841 by luring him to double the money in the name of a healthcare scheme. As soon as the complaint was received, the police started investigation and Rs 13,46,487 had been returned to the affected family. oc

PWD staffer dies in mishap

Hoshiarpur: An employee, working in the PWD, died in a road accident after being hit by a vehicle. The police have registered a case. Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Adamwal Garhi village, told the police that his brother-in-law Parminder Singh of Khun Khun Kalan, was working in the department. He told the police that near village Gambhowal, his brother-in-law was hit by an unknown vehicle due to which he died. oc

The accused is wanted in a case of theft registered on July 9, 2018, and was declared PO on October 13, 2023. oc

Nakodar: The police have arrested a villager for burning stubble. The suspect had been identified as Phumann Singh of Tandaura village. The Nakodar police arrested Avtar Singh of Gill village for burning paddy stubble. oc
