Books worth Rs 20 lakh sold at 'Mela Ghadri Babeyan Da' in Jalandhar

The 33rd ‘Mela Ghadri Babeyan Da’ came to a close with the sale of books worth around Rs 20 lakh. The fair bustled with hundreds of book lovers, selecting books on Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, English literature, contemporary commentaries on art, war, history, among others.

Desh Bhagat Yadgaar committee’s cultural convener Amolak Singh said that a total of 100 book stalls were set up at the fair, which collectively earned around Rs 20 lakh.

Store owners from Delhi, Haryana, UP, Mansa, Faridkot, Amritsar and Jalandhar had set up stalls at the book fair.

Meanwhile, Jai Surya, a Delhi University student, representing the collective “Go Red” had set up a stall with his friend. By the end of the fair, their postcards, bookmarks, notepads and tote bags celebrating Amrita Pritam, Pash, Bhagat Singh, Lenin and his cat, Marx, among others, were all sold out.

“The response, especially on the last day, was rousing. What I enjoyed about the mela was the conversations,” he said.

Meanwhile, hundreds of theatre artists, painters, students, publishers, intellectuals and social organisations gathered at the Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Hall to participate in the fair.
