Jalandhar, July 17

One of the members of the committee that was formed to inquire into the LED scam has alleged that authorities lacked will to take action against guilty.

Shamsher Khehra, a member of the committee, questioned why action was not being taken despite the committee submitting its report to the newly formed CEO of the Smart City. “We have handed over our report to the higher authorities. Now, it is their turn to take action. When an audit report was already there, why did they ask us to inquire into the matter?” he said.

A new audit report on the alleged LED light scam recently came to the fore. Although anomalies were pointed out by the company which conducted the audit, no action was ever taken.

“It seems that everything, including formation of the committee was just a formality. As per the information, a meeting was supposed to be held in this regard with the CEO on Saturday too. But the last-minute cancellation of the meeting is a clear indication that neither the Mayor nor the MC Commissioner wants to take any action,” said Khehra.
