ASHA workers hold rally in support of their demands

The Democratic ASHA Workers and Facilitator Union Punjab today held a protest and burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann at Kartarpur.

ASHA workers said they protested against the state government’s inability to fulfil it’s promise made to them. They said during the bypoll, Bhagwant Maan had held a meeting with the union and agreed to raise the age limit of workers’ retirement to 62 years, restore the allowances, increase the honorarium of facilitators, provide free insurance of Rs 5 lakh, etc. However, the failure of the government to keep these promises forced them to go for protest at Kartarpur under the leadership of district general secretary Amritpal Kaur.

They burnt an effigy of the CM while raising slogans outside the BDPO office.

Addressing the demonstration, she said the government had failed to fulfil the promises made after a meeting with the ASHA workers.

They said the government came to power in the state after making promises to the people but failed to keep them.

They announced that if their demands were not met, the ASHA workers from across Punjab would hold state-level rallies at Giddarbaha, Chabbewal and Dera Baba Nanak during the byelections.

It was also decided that the Democratic Employees Federation Punjab would participate in a huge rally to be held at Jalandhar on October 28.

State president Mandeep Kaur Bilga, district president Gurjit Kaur Shahkot, block presidents Manjit Kaur, Inderjit Kaur, Mandeep Kumari among others also addressed the rally.
