The trade licence of a commission agent (arhtiya), who was allegedly over-weighing the produce of a farmer at new grain market in Nurmahal, has been suspended.

The grain market falls under the Nurmahal Market Committee and the action was taken by its administrator and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Phillaur, Aman Pal Singh after receiving an inspecting report from Nurmahal Naib Tehsildar Kulwindar Singh following the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal. The SDM said that during random checking, a firm was found guilty of weighing 400 grams more per bag whereas the standard weight is 37.5 kg per bag. According to the SDM, during the inspection the produce of a farmer brought to the firm Dhan Guru Ram Dass Trading Company owned by Arshdeep Singh, son of Gurwinder Singh of Ramew Wal village for procurement, was being weighed for more than 400 grams per bag.
