Jalandhar: Absconding kingpin of highway robbers’ gang lands in police dragnet

The Jalandhar police claimed to have arrested Ajay Pal Singh, alias Raja Ambarsariya, kingpin of a highway robbers’ gang, here today. He fled from the Adampur police station on January 18.
After his escape, he carried out three more car snatchings before he was finally apprehended by the Jalandhar police.
The suspect, who suffered injuries while trying to escape from the police custody again, was admitted to a hospital.
Notably, Ajay Pal escaped from the Adampur police station about 7.30 pm on January 18. After his escape, he fled with a Brezza car from the Alawalpur police station.
Following his escape, a special team was formed under SP (Investigation) Manpreet Singh and Adampur DSP Vijay Kanwarpal Singh to trace him.
The team comprising Adampur SHO Manjit Singh and CIA staff Jalandhar (Rural) in charge Pushp Bali chased leads in several areas and succeeded in arresting him.
On the day of his escape, he fled towards a hi-tech naka at Talwandi Chaudhrian village in Kapurthala. He abandoned the car near the naka and escaped through fields amid dense fog at night. He also snatched two Activa scooters in Batala after the escape.
The police said Ajay Pal again tried to flee while he was being brought to the Adampur police station. He hoodwinked cops on the pretext of relieving himself at the Alawalpur railway crossing. While fleeing, his leg was trapped in a cement block near the railway tracks. Following which, he fell and suffered injuries. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital. The police said his remand was being obtained.
