AAP govt has betrayed Sikh community: Akali Dal rebels
Jalandhar, July 22
Leaders of the Akali Sudhar Lehar Gurpartap Wadala and Jagir Kaur on Monday alleged that the state government was not serious towards ensuring justice in cases of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in 2018 at Bargari and other places.
Former minister Jagir Kaur said the AAP government had come on the promise of providing justice to the Sikh community within a month but nothing had been done even after over two years. Jagir Kaur said former IG Ranbir S Khatra, who had led SIT in the cases, too had been alleging that the state government was not making headway in the cases.
Both Wadala and Jagir Kaur said by not making an appeal in the cases in the Supreme Court in time, the AAP government had backtracked on its own commitment. “By not giving permission to prosecute the head of the Dera Sacha Sauda, Mann, as the Home Minister, is playing with the sentiments of the Acommunity”, they said.
They said they would hold a series of seminars from August 5 regarding Sikh Rehat Maryada and awareness on other issues related to the Sikhism. The first event would be held at Makhan Shah Lubana Hall in Chandigarh. They said the Sikhs were not satisfied with the role that the Akali Dal had played on all matters related to sacrilege issues and hence people were still annoyed with them.
