746 in the fray for posts of sarpanch in Nawanshahr

The district administration in India has completed preparations for the gram panchayat elections scheduled for October 15th. Over 2,890 candidates are competing for 466 gram panchayat positions, with 150 sarpanch and 1,762 panch positions already filled unopposed. Voting will take place from 8 am to 4 pm using ballot papers, with counting starting immediately after. Voters can use various forms of ID to cast their vote. The administration has emphasized the importance of free and fair elections, with strict monitoring and security measures in place to ensure a peaceful and successful democratic process.

The district administration has completed all preparations for the gram panchayat elections which will be held on October 15.

Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Rajesh Dhiman said the election staff in all five blocks were sent to their polling stations along with election materials. The staff were also briefed and instructions were given for election preparations, security arrangements and voting process to be carried out smoothly.

There are a total of five blocks and 466 gram panchayats in the district. As many as 746 candidates for sarpanch and 2,144 candidates for panch are in the fray for the panchayat elections. Also, 150 candidates for sarpanch and 1,762 for panch have won unopposed and 136 panchayats have already been unanimously elected in the district.

Villagers can cast vote from 8 am to 4 pm through ballot paper. The counting of votes will start immediately after the voting. He appealed to the voters to reach the polling station on time and cast their vote.

The villagers can cast their vote by showing their voter card, Aadhaar card, PAN card, Passport, MGNREGA job card, driving licence, ration card and blue card as proof of identity at the polling booth.

The Deputy Commissioner said as per instructions of the State Election Commission, strict monitoring would be kept at the polling stations. He said conducting free and fair elections was the first priority of the administration. He appealed to all voters to vote with peace and discipline and make the democratic process a success.

SSP Dr Mehtab Singh said special security arrangements had been made to maintain law and order during the elections. “Adequate police personnel have been deployed in the district and patrolling parties have been formed to prevent any disturbance,” he added.
