6.83 lakh voters to decide fate of 380 candidates in MC elections
A total of 6.83 voters will decide the fate of 380 candidates who are in the fray for the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation elections from 85 wards.
District Election Officer Dr Himanshu Aggarwal said there are 6,83,367 electors for the MC poll, including 3,54,159 men, 3,29,188 women and 20 transgenders. He said there will be 677 polling booths where the election process would be conducted smoothly and transparently.
On Monday, General Election Observer APS Sandhu, appointed by the Punjab State Election Commission, conducted a meeting with district officials to assess election preparations for polling on December 21.
Chairing the meeting at the District Administrative Complex, Sandhu reviewed staff training, polling booth sensitivity, security deployment, licensed arms collection and complaint resolution. He emphasised strict adherence to the Election Commission’s guidelines and instructed immediate action on complaints.
Sandhu directed police officers to prepare ward-wise lists of sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations for enhanced monitoring. He also called for the prompt collection of remaining licensed weapons.
Officials present included DCP Aditya, ADCs Jasbir Singh and Budhi Raj Singh, SDMs Balbir Raj Singh and Randeep Singh Heer, and other senior officials.
