Jalandhar Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma on Wednesday solicited support and cooperation of the general public to make the city crime-free.

A function was organised to mark one month of the campaign. Addressing the gathering at the event, Sharma said the Commissionerate police had identified 850 organisations in the city, adding that the police had organised over 500 meetings with the organisations to seek their support to tackle crime. He said this was done within the first month of the campaign. He said the main concern was to enhance public-police participation to check the crime rate in the city.

A cardiologist, Dr Raman Chawla, underscored the need for basic training for police regarding first aid to accident victims and to apprise them of the importance of rushing them to the nearest hospital in case of an emergency.
