As many as 32 teams have been constituted to create awareness and keep a close eye on stubble burning. Of these, 10 teams were working in Tanda only.

Farmers should manage paddy straw in fields as there are a number of techniques available under which the mechanised management of paddy stubble could be done.

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittla said this here today during her visit to Bhoolpur village to disseminate the awareness against stubble burning. She was accompanied by SSP Surendra Lamba and other officers

While visiting fields where bales of stubble were being readied, Mittal said the teams were visiting different blocks to educate farmers not to set paddy straw on fire, which further harm soil fertility, eco-friendly system and human health.

The DC also interacted with farmers to apprise them about the steps being taken to manage crop residue in the fields as well as efforts made by the administration to provide machinery for the stubble management.

She said the contact numbers of officials of the Agriculture Department had already been circulated for the help of farmers so that they could get such machinery without any hassle. She also inspected the bales being made from stubble in the village and lauded the efforts of the farmers. She pointed out that the apex court had also imposed a ban on stubble burning, besides directing to initiate legal action against those violating the directions.

SSP Lamba said the practice of stubble burning should be shunned as it not only polluted environment, but also spoil soil fertility.

Tanda SDM Pankaj Kumar, Chief Agriculture Officer Dapinder Singh and other officials were also present on this occasion.
