3 held for taking away e-vehicle at knife point
The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, led by Commissioner Swapan Sharma, has apprehended three persons linked to a snatching gang operating in the city. The police recovered an e-rickshaw and a knife used in the crime from their possession.
As per police officials, the operation stemmed from a complaint lodged by Rinku, a resident of Mohalla Kabir Nagar on October 2, who reported an incident, involving his e-rickshaw. In his complaint to the police, Rinku said he was approached by three young men at Gaji Gulla Chowk, who requested a ride to Nagra Fatak, promising to pay extra for the trip.
On reaching Nagra Fatak, the suspects insisted on being taken to Maqsudan Chowk, where they forcibly redirected Rinku to Maqsudan Bridge around 1:30 am. There they threatened him with a knife and forcibly took his e-rickshaw, fleeing the scene.
Acting on his complaint, the police immediately registered an FIR under Sections 309(4), 3(5) BNS at Police Station Division Number 1, and started an investigation into the case.
Following the investigation, police teams identified the suspects as Vimal Gulati of Krishna Nagar Basti Bawa Khel, Gaurav, alias Chintu, and Saurav, alias Tinku, both residents of Basti Nau side area.
Swapan Sharma confirmed their arrest along with the recovery of the stolen e-rickshaw and the knife used in the crime.
He said while Vimal had a criminal case, Gaurav and Saurav did not have any previous criminal records. The Commissioner stated that the investigation was ongoing and further details regarding their involvement in other such incidents would be shared as the investigation progresses.
