To ensure that people get clean and quality food, District Health Officer Dr Jatinder Bhatia and a food safety team inspected jaggery making units in Hariana town adjoining Hoshiarpur. During checking, officials found that old and spoiled jaggery was being used to make new jaggery.

Two quintals of spoiled jaggery was destroyed on the spot by the District Health Officer and his team. He warned jaggery makers that those who played with the health of the people would not be spared.

The Health Department team also inspected fast food and other eatables at eateries and collected five samples of jaggery, sugar, dry dates, turmeric and Manchurian. The collected samples were sent to the Kharar lab for testing. Appropriate action would be taken after the sample report comes, Dr Bhatia said, while adding that keeping in mind the health of the people, food items were being checked. — OC
